Conversational Spanish I - Course Description ΏHabla espaρol? Our beginning level Spanish course introduces students to the basic concepts of the language and focuses on Spanish as a part of everyday life. Early sessions cover the basics of the language including common greetings, introductions, colors and numbers, the Spanish alphabet, and fundamentals of pronunciation. Topics such as asking and answering questions, taking and giving personal information, essential travel vocabulary for vacationers, asking directions, describing places and their location, and other vocabulary crucial to developing the skills necessary to master the language are covered in the latter portion of the course. Hispanic culture is also introduced throughout the course in order to deepen the students appreciation of the language and the rich cultural heritage that surrounds it. Through materials, lessons and outside practice, students will build their Spanish language skills each of the four areas of language learning: reading, writing, speaking and listening. However, due to the conversational approach of the course, the primary focus of in-class sessions will be speaking and listening. Emphasis is placed on the structure of the Spanish language, building vocabulary, introducing various aspects of Hispanic culture and honing pronunciation skills. Return to the Group Class Schedule
